Hipster female catches my eye
I just downloaded an album after seeing a music video! Crazy, I know. A video itself hasn’t spurred me to investigate an artist since, well, the early ’90s–back when I wasn’t allowed to watch MTV but desperately wanted to.
So go ahead and watch Bat for Lashes’ video for “What’s a Girl to do?” from the album Fur and Gold. They’re definitely channeling a Donnie Darko / hispter / scenester vibe with the masks, bicycles, and clothes.
The album itself is neat. Not amazing, but it’s not like anything I’ve been listening to lately–and thus has probably made a more palpable impact on me as a result. She (lead singer Natasha Khan) will be releasing another album this year as Bat for Lashes, according to Wikipedia. (I added the “citation needed” tag after that sentence so some enthusiast can find the official word; then I will cross-post. I am that lazy.)
